Dan Evans powers Great Britain into the Davis Cup quarter-finals

Evans seals a 3-1 victory over Kazakhstan

Dan Evans powered Great Britain into the Davis Cup quarter-finals with a battling 3-1 victory over Kazakhstan.

The British number one saw off world number 38 Alexander Bublik 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in a match that lasted two hours and 35 minutes. The win secured Great Britain's place in the last eight after Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury had earlier beaten Bublik and Andrey Golubev 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) in the doubles.

Evans’s win seals victory for Great Britain

Evans's victory was a crucial one for Great Britain, who were without Andy Murray for the tie. The Scot is still recovering from a hip injury and was not risked for the match.

Evans, who is ranked 29th in the world, showed his class against Bublik, who is known for his big serve and powerful groundstrokes. The British player broke Bublik's serve six times and saved 12 of the 13 break points he faced.

Evans's win was a fitting end to a successful Davis Cup campaign for Great Britain, who have now reached the quarter-finals for the first time since 2016. They will face either Spain or Serbia in the last eight.

Skupski and Salisbury earn doubles victory

Skupski and Salisbury had earlier given Great Britain a 2-1 lead in the tie with their victory in the doubles. The British pair were too strong for Bublik and Golubev, breaking their serve four times.

Skupski and Salisbury have now won 11 of their last 12 Davis Cup matches and are one of the best doubles teams in the world.

Great Britain reach quarter-finals

Great Britain's victory over Kazakhstan means they have reached the Davis Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 2016. They will face either Spain or Serbia in the last eight.

Great Britain have a good chance of reaching the semi-finals, especially if Murray is fit to play. However, they will need to be at their best to beat either Spain or Serbia.
